Watercolor Flowers Unconventionally

Creating watercolor flowers with a true matte surface showing no texture or brush marks is a technique I use often. It's effective and lends itself to producing finished artwork for decorative work, posters, and a variety of decorative design projects.

To get better as an artist practice every day. I have included these watercolors below for you to use as a practice template. Get discovered here. Submit a piece of your artwork and I create a free artist web page here. It's all free and it will stay that way.

Transparent watercolor produces light and airy effects. Personally, I rarely use it that way. Instead, I use a transparent medium so as to work over tone or wash. Then I can build it up without picking up too much of the underlying color.

You can see from the images on this page that this watercolor technique helps achieve a realistic treatment that is similar to the technique of oil painting.

It's useful to experiment and try a variety of inks, dyes, and so forth. By experimenting and combining mediums you'll discover what works best for your own work.
