Drawing Tablets For Professionals
And The Creative Community

Drawing tablets most popular with graphics artists and the creative community are often manufactured by Wacom, VisTablet, Adesso, DigiPro, Genius, and Tooya. The Apple iPad tablet is a computer.

The iPad tablet is great for streaming, email, FaceTime, and so on. It requires an app to use it as a graphics drawing tablet which I find a bit cumbersome.

If you are a seasoned professional, then you likely will select a Wacom model. It's considered to be the industry standard for USB graphics tablets.

Each powerful model ranges in size from small to extra large with varying options and accessories. If you are thinking about using a tablet to do some digital drawing on your Mac of PC, or to process some photos, then an less expensive model usually will be a fine choice. I like to set it on one of my drawing tables which is my preferred way to work on projects.

Wacom Intuos4 drawing tablets

Wacom Intuos4 extra large model pen tablet is the preferred choice for anyone who works in really large-sized artwork, or who digitizes printed artwork.

The Intuos4 Medium bundled with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 gives the ultimate digital darkroom in one piece of equipment. In addition to Photoshop there are drawing programs some of which are free.

The Wacom Intuos4 extra large has an enormous workspace area which is great for me. Plus eight keys are built-in and illuminated for easy reference and reach.

Tip sensor technology has advanced and delivers a finer level of control. Pen pressure need only be a feather-light touch. This is great on time-consuming projects to protect your dominant arm and hand. For traditional artists like me, you get a feel and accuracy like working with brushes, pens and markers.

The Intuos pen tablets speed production time for photo editing, design and art creation. Plus the tool feels more natural allowing the artist to experience increased comfort and control.

Built-in toggle buttons give you control over different functions in each application you're using.

Other features I look for are having mirror controls on each side when I'm in the market for a digital drawing pad. This allows me to use them with whatever hand is not holding the digital pen. It results in quick navigation which is essential for me as I'm creating, editing, and working on highly detailed illustration.

And, when I spend so much time on a project, my arm and hand can tire. So I like to have a gently sloping palm rest with an easy glide against my skin or clothing while providing complete support on all areas while I'm working on it.

Another thing that's important to me is where to store the digital pen. I like it to be convenient and have a space to hold the pen nibs and pen removal tool.

There are models to satisfy professionals and those in the creative community who are looking to purchase drawing tablets at all price points.

You will find wireless and traditional models for Mac and PC. Decide what features are most important to you and your art. Then start investigating.

As I mentioned above, drawing tablets most popular with graphics artists and the creative community are often manufactured by VisTablet, Adesso, DigiPro, Genius, and Tooya. Wacom is considered the industry standard for USB graphics tablets.
