Nature Drawings: Crop Circles
An aerial photo of crop circles was used as a base for this sketch. Field-size patterns, or crop circles, are works created by flattening wheat, maize, rye or barley. Simple tools like planks, rope, and wire can create circles eight feet in diameter.
Although I'm not sure where my aerial photo was taken, crop circles have become a significant source of tourism for Wiltshire, England. As you can see from my sketch, the designs have become far more complicated as well.
Anyway, my sketch turned out to look more like a flower. My love of geometric circular shapes was the inspiration behind it. I chose brown pencil to give a softer, more natural look to the shapes. The process of drawing is so enjoyable and peaceful. The feeling carries over in me for a long time after I'm done for the day.
While my garden can't produce it's own crop circles, I grow vegetables, herbs and flowers. My family and I have enjoyed a harvest of organically grown produce for decades. The garden is really very pretty to look at, colorful, aromatic and health enhancing.
My garden and the woods on my land have an endless supply of natural designs which are fun to study and try to reproduce on paper.
